Public Hearings Schedule for 2018-19 Budget & Municipal Tax Rate

Property Tax Budget 2018 Word Cloud

At Monday night’s August 27 Town Council Meeting, elected officials spent an evening in further discussion regarding the Town’s past financial trends and analyzing the five-year financial forecast as presented by Town staff. These discussions reviewed a possible change in the Town’s financial policies as they relate to our municipal property tax rate and its role in Westlake’s financial sustainability, including setting next year’s tax rate and the recommended number of operating days to maintain in our General Fund (or operations account). As a result, two Public Hearings have now been set in September on Monday, the 10th and Wednesday the 19, both at 7:30 PM in the Council Chambers at Westlake Town Hall.

As required by law, we have posted the standard notification in the newspaper, which states a tax rate of $0.15600 per $100 dollar valuation.  It is important for our residents to know that any potential increase in our property tax will not exceed the proposed rate of $0.15600 per $100 and may be less than the number stated in the ad; however, we are unable to adjust the verbiage to reflect that option.  The legal notification’s language is dictated by statute and the Truth in Taxation laws, thus it could not be altered. We want to make sure you understand the property tax rate has not yet been determined.

Westlake residents are encouraged to attend and share your views at the following public hearings regarding a potential increase to our municipal property (ad valorem) tax rate:

  • First Hearing: Monday, Sept. 10, 2018 at 7:30 PM; Town of Westlake Council Chambers, 1500 Solana Blvd, Bldg. 7, Suite 7100, Westlake, TX  76262
  • Second Hearing: Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018 at 7:30 PM; Town of Westlake Council Chambers, 1500 Solana Blvd, Bldg. 7, Suite 7100, Westlake, TX  76262

If you would like to learn about these topics, please make plans to attend one of the above mentioned public hearings or contact Assistant Town Manager Amanda DeGan at 817-490-5719 or via email.
