March 2017: Butterfly Gardens
March Butterfly Gardening

One of the best parts of Spring is getting to see all the butterflies and flowering plants! It might surprise you that here in Westlake, we have not one, but TWO butterfly gardens. The National Wildlife Federation, via the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge, certifies the gardens. It is also another aspect of what makes us a recipient of the nationally recognized Tree City USA Award, along with our Arbor Day celebrations and dedication to our landscape and forestry. One butterfly garden is located in the southwest corner of Westlake Academy’s campus, while the other is located off Glenwyck Trail by Glenwyck Farms.

A great way that you can help make Westlake as colorful and lively with plants is butterflies, and jazz up your yard is to dedicate a small (or large!) area to becoming a butterfly garden! You can have as many or as few plants as you want in order to accomplish this.

Check out our full article for the five steps to starting a butterfly garden, what species to watch out for in the area, plants to choose, and more!
