The Town of Westlake staff’s original plan was to have Dove Road closed in 2 phases: 1) FM 1938 to Randol Mill and; 2) from Randol Mill to Sam School Road. However, the reconstruction project is now running 3 weeks behind schedule due to rain and franchise utilities being in the way. The gas line was finally relocated last week. During excavation of the existing box culverts, the contractor damaged two phone cable that was not previously located. We later learned they were abandoned AT&T cables.
We will be changing the construction schedule to ensure we are finished before school starts in August. The section of Dove Road between FM 1938 and Randol Mill will remain closed while we start the section of Dove Road east of Randol Mill.
Stabilization of Dove Road west of Randol Mill is complete and we have installed the first course of base asphalt binder. The plan is to cover the roadway with at least 1-1/2 inches of asphalt binder before this weekend to help with dust control over the holidays.
After June 30th, we will not have a paving crew on the job site until next Thursday to finish up any remaining work on the west side; the contractor working on the box culvert and the Town’s contractor working on miscellaneous items will be on site.
We are planning to place the final asphalt surface after the box culvert work being performed by the Quail Hollow developer is complete (approximately 4 weeks).
Two additional message boards have been ordered and set up alerting motorists of the construction that the east leg, including Southlake’s portion of the project Randol Mill) will be under construction next week. For this work, we will set up flaggers to flag traffic through the active construction area (one way at a time) while we work on the east leg.
We will complete the east leg the last week of July, including the final surface layer of asphalt, and complete the section on the west side of Randol Mill where the box culvert is being installed.
