At the beginning of May, we first told you about the Dove Road reconstruction project that would no doubt impact your daily commute for a portion of the summer. During those communications via our website, social media, Westlake Wire emails, and inserts in your water bill, our goal was to keep you constantly informed about the process.
Originally the project was supposed to take around 6 weeks, beginning on June 5th and ending this week. However, due to a near record rainfall in June, and an unusual amount of rain in July as well, the project was delayed. The inclement weather not only causes a delay on the actual day of the rain but it also often comes with several days of cleanup afterward, delaying crews’ efforts even more. Needless to say, Mother Nature hasn’t been our friend on this project.
With that said, crews are now on the home stretch to completion. According to our Town staff members who visit the site multiple times each day, we are about 2 weeks away from the road being reopened for travel.
The biggest hurdle right now is the pouring concrete for the box culvert, which was done today. It takes some time for the concrete to cure, so until then, construction vehicles aren’t able to travel across it. However, once the concrete is cured, that will allow workers to further move toward completion.
In the meantime, asphalt is being laid on the east side of Dove Road and should be completed by mid-week except for the area on either side of the bridge which will be finished once the concrete has cured.
Another aspect of the project we wanted to address, is dust. With any major project like this, dust is going to be an issue. We know the dust has been quite prevalent the last few days, however, you’ll be happy to know that the worst should be over by mid-week. We have had water trucks on site at all times since we started removing asphalt in an effort to keep the dust down and will continue to have them on standby to use when needed until the project is complete, so you should see a noticeable difference in the next few days.
Once the major work is finished and the road is reopened, there will be a brief time where you’ll see crews making aesthetic enhancements along Dove. During this time, there will be limited lane closures, but the road will remain open.
Town staff wants to assure each and every one of you that we understand this has been an inconvenience, but are working diligently to complete this project as quickly as possible so that your travels on Dove Road can return to normal. We will be sending out weekly updates via Westlake Wire and will report any new developments more frequently on our web site and social media pages as needed.
If you have any questions about the Dove Road reconstruction, please email the Town of Westlake’s Project Manager, Pat Cooke at pcooke@westlake-tx.org, or call 817-727-5053.
Again, we sincerely thank you for your patience.
