YOU TALKED – WE LISTENED! --Less time/inconvenience, less cost, quicker results
Westlake residents, Academy families and all commuters have patiently endured six weeks of roadway construction and closures along Dove Road & Pearson Lane. We sincerely thank you for your understanding as we work to improve mobility and safety within our community in the most effective manner possible. Continued conversations, monitoring and reassessments of the roadway improvements have been on-going with residents, Westlake elected officials, town staff, Hillwood Properties and the contractors to not only maximize the infrastructure investments of our public/private partnership opportunity but also to minimize the time and inconvenience of all our community members.
We are happy to report that the Dove & Pearson Lane intersection is progressing rapidly and is on target to reopen the week of July 1, 2012. This will allow traffic to flow westbound from FM 1938 & Blue Sky Drive in Vaquero and connect with southbound travel along N. Pearson Lane. However Dove Road will remain closed from the west side of the N. Pearson Lane intersection, westbound to J. T. Ottinger Road. Additionally, we understand from TXDoT that the full opening of FM 1938 is also scheduled to occur by July 1, 2012.
Beginning the week of June 4, 2012, construction crews will immediately begin with the next phase of roadway improvements while still on-site. This phase of the project will reconstruct the current Dove Road & J.T. Ottinger Road configuration with a safer, modified “T” intersection. Other roadway improvements will also be made along J.T. Ottinger Road, and the closed section of roadway will begin at the Deloitte University service drive, past Mahotea Boone and continue southbound to the Westlake/Keller town limits. Completion of this project is scheduled for August 20, 2012 – before school begins.
The decision to close the intersection of Dove Road and J. T. Ottinger Road, with the previous construction phase still underway, was made after careful consideration. By allowing the construction crews and equipment to quickly mobilize while still on-site and begin the next phase of improvements during the summer months, the amount of time to complete the entire project is shortened (along with driver inconvenience), the cost of needed improvements is lowered, and mobility is increased for our drivers- along with enhanced safety for all. Another important factor for all Westlake residents, the additional savings of scheduling the construction projects in this manner will also allow for more options/quicker implementation of our trail connection plans along Dove and J.T. Ottinger Roads.
Expanded details will be provided next week along with the recommended detour routes. These routes are still being finalized and approved by all affected stakeholders. Please look for additional communications regarding this project with the affected roadways and anticipated detours clearly identified for your use.
