Memorial Day means Decoration Day in Westlake and that is our community's special time each year to honor those men and women who have died while serving in the U.S. military.
Presented by the Westlake Historical Presentation Society, Decoration Day has long been a Town favorite and we encourage you and your family to join the WHPS members, Town leaders, fellow residents, and surrounding citizens for an old-fashioned small-town gathering to remember the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in service protecting our great nation and freedoms.
New this year: A US Flag Retirement ceremony and, as a part of our Arbor Day series this year, there will be free drawings for trees to plant in memory of a fallen hero/family member; and as always, enjoy free hot dogs, ice cream, and Dutch oven cobblers prepared by local Boy Scout Troop 170, with special guest speakers and music.
We hope to see you there from 6 - 8 pm in the Westlake IOOF Cemetery, located at 3101 JT Ottinger Road.
Don't forget to bring your lawn chair or blanket and mosquito spray too, but please - no pets. Questions? Contact WHPS President Stephen Thornton via email or at 817-995-9647.
