April 17, 2020
Dear Westlake Academy families,
As many of you may have anticipated, Governor Greg Abbott issued a notice today that schools in Texas would remain under a distance learning configuration for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. This is sad news for many of our students and staff as they look forward to finishing the year strong and marking the achievement of a milestone event.
I am in discussions with the administrative leadership team to finalize the plans for end of the year notifications, retrieval of personal items from the school, distance learning wrap-up, and exploring alternatives to celebrate our graduates. Please know that we will share all this information with you once we have completed our plans.
We are so very proud of the work and dedication of our students, the commitment of our teachers and staff teams, and the support from all of our families. To say that the events surrounding the COVID-19 health crises were unexpected would be an understatement. We know that many of our families are still working from home while playing a huge role in facilitating the education of your children through distance learning and responding to the uncertainties of our situation. For this, we thank you.
Please know that we have begun planning for the 2020-2021 school year. As we continue to do so, we will remain in close contact with state and local officials who will provide additional guidelines for the fall. As we wrap up the 2019-2020 school year, we want you to know that we are committed to ensuring each and every one of our students has the educational support needed to excel next year. Do not doubt that your child is currently being engaged in and pursuing an IB education and that we are committed to their success. When we return to the traditional classroom environment, the academic team will address any areas where students need support for the fall semester.
You can help us by checking your email accounts, our website, and social media pages for updates during the summer months.
Lastly, as you and your family look forward to summer, please continue to follow the public health officials’ guidelines to ensure your safety during our time apart.
Respectfully,
Amanda DeGan
