Good Tuesday morning,
The City of Fort Worth, which supplies our water, has extended their boil water notice to the Town of Westlake as of early this morning. The order was prompted by the rolling blackouts that have been occurring state-wide.
Failures of equipment and pumps at local water treatment plants have led several communities, including Westlake, to receive the notice. Three of the four treatment plants in service experienced outages, with most having multiple outages. Once power was restored, complications from frozen equipment delayed returning the plants or pump stations into service immediately.
Generators were placed in service, but at least one failed Monday afternoon. The end result was water was used at a quicker rate than the plants could produce and move it along to customers. Nine cities that buy drinking water from Fort Worth; Haslet, Keller, Lake Worth, Northlake, Roanoke, Saginaw, Southlake, Trophy Club, and Westlake are all being impacted.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU
- Boil water before consumption, brushing teeth, washing hands/face, drinking
- Water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes
- In lieu of boiling, you can use bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking or other human consumption purposes
- Children, seniors, and those with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria
When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials and the Town of Westlake will notify you that the water is safe for use.
Fort Worth Water staff continue to work around the clock to restore capacity needed. In the meantime, i
