Election day is right around the corner. Saturday, May 1st Westlake residents will cast their votes for Town Council. Rick Rennhack, who has been a member of our Council since 2009, has chosen not to seek re-election. Mr. Rennhack says he believes Westlake is moving in the right direction and thought now was the perfect time for him to move on to other opportunities.
During this election cycle, we have a total of three seats available and four people seeking to fill those spots. This means that the top three candidates who receive the majority of the votes will fill the available Council seats. Anyone who runs for election as a Town Council member also serves on Westlake Academy’s Board of Trustees – thus, they serve as both a council member and a school board member. The elected officials meet at least two evenings per month, attend budget and planning meetings, serve on various committees around the Metroplex, and represent Westlake with both our neighboring community members and serve as a conduit of information for our residents.
Below are resources to help you navigate through the election process as well as a look at each candidate in alphabetical order.
If you have any election questions, please contact Town Secretary Todd Wood at 817-490-5711 or email him at twood@westlake-tx.org or visit the Tarrant County Election website.

WESTLAKE TOWN COUNCIL CANDIDATE PROFILES IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER:
Chandrika Dasgupta
How long have you lived in Westlake? 6 years
Why do you want to run for Town Council? This amazing Town with its loving residents and strong family values has made it easy to lay down deep roots within this community. I have two boys who attend Westlake Academy and I strongly believe the Town needs representation from a Westlake Academy parent.
For years, I have been involved in various school and Town initiatives without holding an official position. From these experiences, I have learned that accountability, transparency, and measurable deliverables are imperative to ensure the growth of our wonderful town by fostering a strong sense of community and a solid education for our children. Having worked outside the system for a while, I am now trying to be a part of it to bring a new and fresh perspective.
I know many Westlake children choose not to attend Westlake Academy which is understandable as every child has different needs and aspirations and I intend to continue having dialogues with their parents so we can enhance the level of excellence, to enable them to have an even better choice.
Also, a balanced representation is necessary for the council and currently, we need someone representing the Dove Road subdivisions.
Finally, I have an MBA with over 20 years of real estate experience from development to construction to service management globally with multimillion dollars of budgeting and have a vision of responsible and intelligent growth in Westlake that preserves our way of life while enhancing property values and quality of our institutions.
Why are you the best candidate? I have already dedicated myself to the Town and school and these are some examples of my initiatives and volunteer activities -
Westlake Academy Parent Representation
- 2 boys in PYP and MYP
- Hosted a dialogue with the school, Town, and parents to understand the root cause of student and teacher attrition and solutions to address them.
- Petitioned for an accelerated Math program and organized discussions with the school, Town, and parents to help implement.
- Have been a room parent for the last 6 years.
- Have been a part of the HOC for the last 4 years as The Room Parent Coordinator, Community Director, and currently the Vice-Speaker.
Volunteer Activities
- Served on the HOA board of Glenwyck for 2 years.
- Fought to preserve the green space behind Glenwyck walls.
- Organized community activities - Halloween/holiday party/ welcoming new residents.
- Gathered feedback from residents and negotiated solutions to address stakeholder interests while staying in budget.
- In Westlake Academy - Grandparent's Day, Teacher Appreciation, New Family Gathering, Front Office, Monster Mash, Spirit Shop, Field Day, Bandana Bonanza.
I believe my dedication to the Town and school along with my education, experience, vision, approachability, and freshness makes me a candidate of choice for the town council.
The residents of Westlake rightfully expect the highest, cleanest, and most transparent governance, and I promise to uphold these values at all times.

Why do you want to run for Town Council? I want to run for re-election to Town Council because I want to continue to be part of the effort to make Westlake a great community to educate our children, provide a safe environment for our families, maintain our natural environment and bucolic view corridors while providing responsible, transparent direction for the inevitable commercial and residential development of our community. As with my current Council colleagues, I want to continue our efforts to provide for an informed and engaged Westlake Community.
Regarding commercial/industrial development in Westlake, I want to continue the current Council’s determination to prevent any adverse effects on Westlake Academy, as well as the residential investments of our fellow citizens.
Why are you the best candidate? I am the best candidate because I have valued experience with the management of the Town of Westlake and Westlake Academy which includes:
- I served on the steering committee to update Westlake’s Comprehensive Plan in 2014-2015.
- I served as a Planning & Zoning Commissioner from 2016-2018.
- I have served as a member of the Town Council and Board of Trustees from 2018 to the present.
In addition to my past and current service to Westlake, I have owned and managed a manufacturer's representative firm since 1986. My company, Trice Marketing Corp., has achieved and maintained a level of customer and manufacturer support that is well respected in the industry that we represent.
My firm’s commitment to providing the best customer service possible is the same commitment I strive for in supporting the Town of Westlake.

Why do you want to run for Town Council? The reason I’m seeking re-election for the Town Council is to ensure that our Westlake way of life continues as we know it today. It has been an honor to serve on the council since 2008 and to serve as Mayor Pro Tem these past 8 years. While we have accomplished many great things in Westlake, there is much more to do. My commitment to residents for the next two years is to ensure we continue to keep our taxes low while protecting our bucolic town standards, our exceptional residential amenities, and our nationally ranked Westlake Academy status.
I feel it is vital that we continue our conservative taxation management and maintain a balanced budget, without sacrificing services. Preserving Westlake’s open spaces by adhering to our Master Comprehensive plan is a priority. Our nationally ranked IB School is critical to student success and our community reputation. National prominence requires that our Westlake Academy students receive the best well-rounded educational experiences, necessary to achieve their dreams.
Why are you the best candidate? Guiding the Town and Westlake Academy is complex. My proven ability to work with others as a Town council member has helped our town achieve what we have today and will continue to help protect all that we value moving forward.
More specifically, I have the desire, experience, and passion that is necessary to serve our entire community. I understand our town’s history and know what it takes to move our town forward. I work hard for all issues while striving to forge strong relationships with our dedicated staff and corporate partners.
My approach is straightforward: to listen and to advocate relentlessly for every resident, be respectful of everyone, value everyone’s point of view, and foster collaboration and flexibility- essential to making sound decisions.
As Mayor Pro Tem I have been closely involved with the many improvements that eased the Town and Academy through its growing years:
- Consistently promoted strict ordinances & architectural review, which elevated our home values.
- Supported best practices for responsible, distinctive development.
- Built Westlake's 10 miles of trails connecting our neighborhoods.
As a Westlake Academy Trustee:
- Championed improved reading & math curriculums.
- Ensured full experiences for "all students”: supporter of art, athletics, music & student well-being.
- Enhanced campus safety.
Continuing my work towards keeping our Town a place of harmony, a place where our children can thrive in an atmosphere that fosters inclusion, an excellent education, and many diverse opportunities is a privilege I hope to realize with your confidence.

How long have you lived in Westlake? 8 years
Why do you want to run for Town Council? I was born in Dallas, Texas to immigrant parents who came here for the chance to chase their American dream. My parents came here during the birth of the computer industry: mom helped write new software programming and dad helped build the first semiconductor chips. As a child, I also watched them cultivate a family real estate business and gain financial freedom! From my parents, I was raised to believe that we are the architects of our own destiny: Our future is what we make it.
I am a physician trained in family and community medicine. My strength is “seeing the big picture", no matter how complex a problem may be. This helps me to not miss the proverbial “forest for the trees”.
I am a businesswoman who has an MBA, helped start TWO medical practices, and worked for Fortune 500 companies. So, I understand the needs of both small businesses and complex corporations. Most importantly, I am a wife and mother of children at Westlake Academy: our daughter graduated last year, and our son is currently in the MYP.
Westlake is an amazing Town: it is filled with people from all walks of life who have successfully achieved their American dreams. In Westlake, we know that our future is what we make it. In the past 10 years, our Town’s population has nearly doubled, and we see growth everywhere around us.
But this pandemic has put an exceptional strain on families, schools, businesses, as well as our healthcare systems. Now more than ever, local government has the biggest impact on our daily lives. Local government is where the rubber meets the road. Westlake is an amazing town! We have a strong Town vision and Comprehensive Plan.
Why are you the best candidate? Westlake needs a person who shares an understanding of real estate, business, and how both are needed for smart growth that makes sense. Westlake needs a physician with a holistic approach to policy that takes into account not only “science and data” but also our community’s values and beliefs. Westlake needs a WA parent on the Town Council and School Board, who will champion our school to maintain our high standards. I embrace smart growth that makes the Town of Westlake a magnet for families and businesses from across the country:
- Maintaining our high standards of commercial and residential development,
- Keeping government small and taxes low,
- Stewardship of our Town’s natural beauty.
I want to preserve the high quality of life we enjoy here. I bring a fresh new voice and a unique perspective to the Town Council. Let's preserve what makes Westlake special. Our Town’s people are amazing, our Town’s history is inspiring, and our Town’s future can be even brighter.
