As many of you know, TxDOT's nearly $100 million Highway 170 project will ultimately close the existing Roanoke Road /170 crossover in Westlake. This closure will be permanent and will impact many residents of Westlake, Keller, and Roanoke.
Here's a recap of what is planned for the project between I-35 and Highway 114, which isn't expected to wrap up until the fall of 2023. In the meantime, here is a quick FAQ that may help shed more light on the project, specific to the Roanoke Road crossover, moving forward.
When will this occur?
Currently scheduled before the end of September, weather permitting.
Will the signal lights stay operational?
Once the crossover is closed, two separate temporary signals are provided on the east and westbound frontage during construction. In the final condition (the highway complete and opened), the temporary signals will be removed and both intersections will be stop-controlled.
Will TxDOT restripe the westbound frontage road and the south intersection at Roanoke Road and Highway 170 to a right turn only?
The striping for traffic departing Roanoke Rd. onto both the east and westbound frontage roads will be updated for right turns only (both intersections become “right-in, right-out”).
Will TxDOT put up message boards about the closing of the crossover?
Yes, advanced notice to the public will be provided before closure, similar to the closing of Old Denton Road this week.
