The Town of Westlake would like to announce that Carol Langdon has stepped down as Councilmember. Carol served on our Council as well as the Westlake Academy Board of Trustees since 2008 and held the role of Mayor Pro Tem for 8 of those years. Carol and her husband Charlie moved with their three children to Westlake in back 2004. We’d like to thank Carol for all of her contributions to our Town and to Westlake Academy and wish her well in the future.
In a Type A General Law form of government, the Town Council may fill the vacancy by appointment (the majority of remaining members, excluding the mayor, make the appointment) until the next regular Town election (May 6, 2023, when the current term expires.)
The Town Council functions as the legislative branch of our local government through the approval of policy direction for both municipal and academic service delivery areas. They also approve two annual budgets, set the ad valorem tax rate (local property tax rate) for the community, review development requests and zoning changes, evaluate the performance of the organization, set strategic planning goals, and provide staff direction on capital investments and financing. Councilmembers for the Town of Westlake also serve as members of the Board of Trustees for Westlake Academy.
The Town has posted the application on the Town website to allow residents to apply for the position. All applicants will be required to fill eligibility requirements which are:
- Be a U.S. Citizen
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Not been convicted of a felony
- Reside in State and Town for 12 months
- Be a registered voter
- Pass a criminal background check for the School Board of Trustee position
The Town Secretary will continue to accept applications until the Town Council appoints a member to fill the vacancy.
