Break out your heavy coats and protect your water pipes; cold weather is on the way!
Exceptionally cold weather will arrive this weekend and continue into next week. While dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills are essentially a guarantee, the potential for snow or ice is less certain.
•A strong cold front will arrive late Saturday or Sunday, sending temperatures below freezing. Temperatures could stay below freezing all day Monday and perhaps all day
Tuesday for some locations. High temperatures above freezing are expected by next Wednesday.
• The coldest temperatures are expected to occur Monday night, with readings in the single digits possible. There is a low (10%) chance for temperatures as cold as zero degrees in parts of North Texas.
• Plan for dangerous wind chill values as low as minus 10 degrees Sunday night and Monday night. Daytime wind chills will mostly be in the teens or lower 20s.
• There is a low to medium chance for snow and/or freezing rain across roughly the eastern half of the area, including the I-35 corridor down to Waco. Some travel impacts are possible.
